Join me welcoming the talented and prolific Desiree Holt to Liz Landia today!
L: How long have you been writing sexy romances? How many have you written/had published?
D: I started writing seriously in 2004, had my first sexy romance published in 2007 and it’s been a wild ride since then. I currently have close to 200 titles available. (Psst! And several in the works.)
L: Tell us the story of how your first book got published. what was it, who published it, etc?
D: I submitted a novella to a Valentine-themed series at Ellora’s Cave, a hot little number entitled Cupid’s Shaft. Just submitted it cold, and they accepted it. Imagine my excitement! I think I stared at the confirming email for three hours. It did so well they asked me to write for another themed series, and then my editor asked me what else I had.
L: Do you do any self publishing?
D: I definitely do self publishing. I have an excellent relationship with my publishers but there are opportunities in self-pub that I wanted to take advantage of, such as KDP and Kindle Worlds. And it’s allowed me to participate in box sets with other authors I admire and spread my wings. You will see some of my older titles being released with new names over the coming months, mostly in self pub. It’s an exciting time for Indies.
L: Who was/has been the single most influential person in your publishing and writing journey?
D: Wow! Let me think. So many people have helped me and been influential in my career. Along the way in my journey I have been so blessed with people who taught and encouraged me. But if I had to pick one person, it would probably be my late husband, who encouraged me from the first day, helped guide me toward other sources where I could get help and encouragement, and told me over and over to work hard, learn my craft and never to give up.
L: Name your top 5 favorite books of all time (any genre).
D: Okay, here goes, in no particular order:
Trustee From the Tool Room by Nevil Shute
Cry No More by Linda Howard
Maid For Love by Marie Force
Code of Conduct By Brad Thor
Separate Beds by LaVyrle Spencer
L: What are your plans into 2016?
D: Late this fall I will be launching two new series: Northern star, set in Alaska, and The Omega Team, set in Tampa. I am anxious to get back into the romantic suspense/adventure stories and my characters are really talking to me. Both series will continue through 2016. I will also be adding more stories to my Rawhide and Naked cowboys series, and have plans to develop a series about bad boy bikers. More stories in my Game On series, of course, and a couple of exciting things I can’t announce yet but watch for them. I’m really excited.
I want to thank Liz Crowe for hosting me on her brand new blog today. I’m honored. I remember when I read the first book by Liz. I was totally blown away by her characters and her gritty prose. She literally engulfs the reader in the story so that when you get to the last page you say, “Wait. Isn’t there more?”
Her characters are so memorable that even long after I’ve read the last page they are still with me. I am still in love with the Stewart Realty series and of course I am on Team Jack! But whatever your preference, you can’t go wrong with a Liz Crowe book.
Flattered, Desiree, thanks. I can only hope to be as successful as you.

Get Ready to Play Rough
Shay Beckham grew up idolizing her brother’s best friend, star quarterback Joe Reilly. There was no one in their Texas town who had the moves to match Joe on or off the field. Years later, he’s still a player who has what it takes to drive any hot-blooded woman wild. But Shay isn’t a kid with a bad case of hero-worship anymore. She’s grown-up and independent, with her feet on the ground and a serious head on her shoulders. If she could just say the same for Joe.
It’s been fifteen years, but Joe Reilly hasn’t forgotten the skinny little kid who used to follow him around like a shadow. What he can’t get over is that the skinny shadow has grown into one hell of an incredible woman. One any man in his right mind would kill to get his hands on. And one who seems to be completely immune to him. He knows he and Shay could have something special together. If he could only convince her he’s about more than just the game.
The taxi moved forward with a jerk and Shay’s eyes popped open. She leaned forward and tapped the driver on the shoulder.
“Did they clear away the wreck? We’re finally moving, right?”
“Yes, miss.” He shrugged. “But slowly.”
She rotated her neck, trying to work out some of the kinks. She’d been sitting in uncomfortable seats since she got in the shuttle to the airport and every muscle in her body ached. The hot shower was looking better and better. Or maybe she’d fire up the hot tub Hank had installed on the rear deck.
Hopefully, with all this delay caused by the wreck, by the time she got to the house Laura would be packed and gone. They pulled off the interstate and she mentally crossed her fingers and silently chanted, Let her be gone. But bad luck was still with her. When they turned onto her street and she spotted the car parked in the driveway, she swore under her breath. Laura Whoever was still here. Well, she’d better be getting ready to leave. Shay was in no mood to put up with bullshit. Sighing, she hauled her suitcase into the house, closed the door, and headed through the living room to her bedroom.
A hissing sound came from the shower in the bathroom connected to her bedroom and the guest room. Damn it! The least Hank could do was tell his little friends to use the master bath and leave hers alone. He had, after all, promised her that she’d have complete privacy.
“I travel a lot,” he’d told her. Then grinned. “And I’ll keep the sleepovers to those times you’re in New York.”
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So how come this female hadn’t gotten the message she was supposed to be gone?
Crap! The door wasn’t even closed. Clouds of steam billowed in the bathroom and obscured the figure in the frosted-glass shower enclosure. Okay, enough was enough.
Shay stepped into the bathroom and banged her hand on the glass.
“This is my bathroom,” she ground out. “I’ve had a tough day and you don’t want to mess with me. Next time use Hank’s bathroom. This one is off-limits. Get your ass out of here in five seconds, or I won’t be responsible for my actions.”
She turned away, not the least bit interested in a glimpse of Laura Whoever’s nudity. She just wanted her out of the house.
The water stopped and the door slid open.
“Okay. I don’t want to cause you any more stress. But Hank said I should use this one.”
The deep voice shocked her and she turned around before she even thought about it. And nearly swallowed her tongue. A very wet, very naked Joe Reilly stood in her shower stall, grinning at her.
Just when she’d finally made up her mind to stop thinking about him and obsessing over him.
At that exact moment her cell phone chimed. A message from Hank.
“BTW, Joe’s in town, Take good care of him.”
